Dr. Erin Vogel, PhD, is a social psychologist and postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Vogel studies social influences on health behaviors and the use of digital tools, including social media, to improve health. She earned her doctorate in 2017 from the University of Toledo (Toledo, Ohio), where her research program primarily focused on the effects of social media use on well-being. Funded by a fellowship award from the California Tobacco Related Disease Research Program, Dr. Vogel’s current research involves: 1) psychosocial influences on adolescent e-cigarette use, including the role of social media, 2) smoking patterns and digital smoking cessation interventions in the LGBTQ+ community, and 3) co-occurring health risk behaviors among young people. Dr. Vogel is excited about the potential of social media and technology to improve physical and mental health, and she aims to contribute to scientific and general knowledge about how to maximize the benefits of these tools.
